about

When I was in New Orleans, this was the porch I spent most my time on: a 9th ward house falling apart on Sister St. where Chris Acker and some boys lived in harmony with the universe for very cheap rent. One fresh and beautiful morning Chris brewed up some delicious coffee and set out to play me a song.

Acker had this to say about the song:
"Not much to say about the song. I wrote it while I was staying at a house with a VHS player. They had a Hey Arnold VHS and I watched the same six episodes like 100 times that summer while this girl who wanted nothing to do with me was out traveling. God bless her. Love to sister street. That house has spawned about as many good songs as the Boar’s Nest in Nashville."

lyrics

Didn't wanna be anybody's baby
'Til I was just like your fool
You made me feel like a kid in a T-shirt
At the shallow end of a pool
And I could tell you the season
But not why some bird flew
Who'd loving bound by reason
And all my reason ends at you

I've been watching some Re-Runs
Staring in the refrigerator's lights
You're all around the water towers
And I'm just waiting in a drive-thru line

Remember when you first approached me
You asked me where I'd come here from
The place that I'd left so proudly
Is now the place to where you're gone
And you had one turn mean against you
Still you're worried where he might go
Won't you just leave him be
And clean his dust from off your door?

I've been watching some Re-Runs
Staring in the refrigerator's lights
You're all around the water towers
And I just collect today's cereal box prize

You know you left me doomed to wonder
Since that time we fell asleep
How two bodies so close together
Could feel about each other so differently
All fine words make you laugh loudly
And all fine words more sweet than this
For you I'll always find the words
That make more of us than there is

I've been watching some Re-Runs
Staring in the refrigerator's lights
And all around the water towers
I'll be wonderin' when you'll give me your time

Didn't wanna be anybody's body
'Til I was just like your fool
You made me feel like a kid in a T-shirt
At the shallow end of a pool
